Bone and Joint Imaging

Bone and Joint imaging is performed by Professor Ciaran Johnston who leads our musculoskeletal service.  Joint imaging and injections are performed for chronic pain and stiffness. Most imaging and injections require no patient preparation.

Insurance cover: Direct billing is available for joint injections and MRI but depends on the source of referral, please ask a member of staff for further details.  If your insurance provider does not directly cover the cost, the expenses can be claimed back depending on your insurance policy at the end of the year.

Direct payment: Joint ultrasound costs 140 euro and joint injections cost 200 euro per joint.  MRI prices depend on the body part imaged but start from 235 euro.

Appointments: Most MRI appointments can be facilitated within 4-5 days of referral. Joint injections are performed within 2 weeks of referral.  A referral letter from your doctor is required when the scan is booked.
